Study Programs

The study programs Biosystems Engineering (Bachelor and Master), Molecular Biosystems (Master) as well as Systems Engineering and Engineering Cybernetics (Bachelor and Master) are an integral part of the CDS training.

The interdisciplinarily structured program  Biosystems Engineering combines biological principles with engineering approaches for quantitative description, analysis and manipulation of biological systems. Due to its contentual conception, the program is unique in Germany and hence keeps on being highly demanded (approx. 300 applications followed by 50 admissions per year).
The smaller program Systems Engineering and Engineering Cybernetics attracts 20 -30 theoretically oriented students per year.

Notably, more than 40% of the alumni of both programs plan on pursuing a doctorate program. Countless positive feedbacks from supervisors of lab rotations, Bachelor- and Master theses from industry and universities within and outside of Germany acknowledge the good training of the students. Both programs already yielded highly qualified junior scientists, which were involved in the work of the CDS by Bachelor-/Mastertheses and doctorate projects.

Molecular Biosystems, a fairly new program, imparts knowledge in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology as well as Systems Biology, Regulatory Biology, Bioinformatics and Systems Theory.

Graduate Training

To support of the career of PhD students, the DFG-funded Research Training Group 2297 (GRK2297) "Mathematical Complexity Reduction - CoRe" as well as the International Max Planck Research School Magdeburg for Advanced Methods in Process and Systems Engineering (IMPRS ProEng) offer professional research training programs.
