Brussels EU-Representatives Visit the Research Building "Systems Biology"

27.10.2016 -

On October 20th 2016, the research building 'Systems Biology' of the Otto von Guericke-University opened its doors to the public as part of the campaign 'Europe in my Region'

The building is home to scientists that belong to the Reseach Center Dynamic Systems: Systems Engineering (CDS). The central research interest of the CDS is the analysis, targeted manipulation and synthesis of complex dynamic systems, whose basis implies mathematical modeling. To achieve this aim, five faculties of the Otto von Guericke University and the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems - supported by the federal initiative for excellence of Saxony Anhalt and the European Fund for Regional Development (EFRE) - have been working together closely for more than ten years now. By the spring of 2014, some research groups were able to move into the architecurally appealing building. Since then, part of the center's interdisciplinary research occurs within the 2.623 square meters of the modern four storey lab- and office building, whose costs were carried by EU funding (EFRE) to 75%.

The Saxony Anhalt wide campaign 'Europe in my Region' - initiated by the Federal Ministry for Economics and Energy (BMWi) together with the state's Ministry for Finances - is supposed to give interested citizens an insight into EU-funded projects. The people got an unusual insight look into the work of the research center, wherein they were guided through the labs by expert scientists and informed about the fascinating applied science.

Official representatives of the EU, Ms Spudulyte of the Brussels Directorate-General for 'Regional and Urban Policy' as well as Mr Thomma of 'Employment, Social Affairs & Inclusion' together with representatives of the Ministry of Finances, were greeted by the CDS speakers Prof. Michael Naumann and Prof. Achim Kienle.
The CDS research received wide interest among all visitors. At the end of the day, the scientists concluded that a highly interested public joined the presentations in the athmospheric research building.
