University of Magdeburg shows what is possible

23.10.2025 -

From September 10th to 12th, 2025, 40 former participants of the nationwide youth research competition "Jugend forscht" were guests in Magdeburg as part of the event "PerspektivForum Karrierepfade: Rethinking the Energy Transition: From Theory to Practice".

The young talents exchanged ideas with experts from science, business, and society, met decision-makers, listened to keynote speeches, and participated in workshops. They gained insights into laboratories and lecture halls. CDS spokesperson Prof. Dr.-Ing. Kai Sundmacher, national winner of the "Jugend forscht" competition in 1984, gave a fascinating evening lecture demonstrating how curiosity and interest in STEM can lead to a career as a process engineer.

The Perspective Forum Career Paths: "Rethinking the Energy Transition: From Theory to Practice" was organized for the first time by the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg together with the "Jugend forscht" Foundation and funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. The event aims to showcase young talents' perspectives for training, study, and careers at the University of Magdeburg and in the region and to establish contacts for the future.

More than 10,000 students participate in the "Jugend forscht" (Youth Research) competition each year. They research topics in mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, and technology. The state competition is regularly held in Magdeburg. The Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg has supported the competition for many years, including through expert judges, laboratory tours, and sponsorships.
