With passion for process engineering and diversity in research

13.05.2025 -

CDS member Dr. Nicole Vorhauer-Huget works since 2018 with her research group at the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg.

The team leader of "Transport in Porous Media" at the Institute of Process Engineering researches energy-intensive processes, among other things, in order to better understand them and make them more efficient. The detailed models developed for this have a wide range of applications. Further development is currently underway for sustainable processes that are also relevant for the circular economy, e.g. pyrolysis of biomass with microwaves. Dr. Vorhauer-Huget is therefore also involved as an associated scientist in the SmartProSys excellence initiative at the University of Magdeburg.

Nicole Vorhauer-Huget is, among other things, an equal opportunities officer . Equality and the promotion of young talent are particularly important to her, which is why she creates targeted programs for young scientists, such as the Ladies' Night for Women in Engineering Sciences, a career event for women in engineering.

She discovered her enthusiasm for process engineering during a study information day at the University of Magdeburg, where she met CDS member Prof. Andreas Seidel-Morgenstern.

Nicole Vorhauer-Huget firmly believes that science thrives on personal contact and interdisciplinary exchange with colleagues around the world. She works in an international team and is engaged in international exchanges with partner universities in China, Brazil, India, and currently also Finland and Bulgaria.

For Nicole Vorhauer-Huget, it's a given that children learn from an early age: scientific research is independent of gender or background. Even as babies, her three children not only participated in international conferences and DFG reviews, but also participated in numerous Zoom meetings with project partners from all over the world; unknowingly, they themselves shaped a completely different work culture.
